Part 3: Management Practices – Supporting Diverse Operations Through Fertilizer Choice and Compatibility
Every farming operation is unique and requires its own set of management practices to support its business needs. BiOWiSH Technologies understands the complex challenges that the agricultural industry faces and strives to develop products that seamlessly integrate into a variety of farming operations regardless of climatic or physical factors.
The BiOWiSH® Fertilizer Enhancement is a versatile product that can be applied to a variety of both dry and liquid fertilizers, and it boasts a long shelf life. This compatibility allows farmers to effortlessly incorporate it into their operations while still using their fertilizer of choice. Applied by a fertilizer supplier, the BiOWiSH® Fertilizer Enhancement arrives at the farm ready to use and doesn’t require fermenting, special equipment, or mixing.
Notably, it is one of the few microbial fertilizer enhancements recommended for coating straight urea, the world’s most widely used fertilizer. BiOWiSH® is also compatible with other dry fertilizer products including MAP, DAP, and NPK blends, as well as common liquid fertilizers including UAN, 10-34-0, common NPK’s, and other custom blends. Additionally, it works in harmony with a wide variety of crop protection products including herbicides, fungicides and insecticides.
The BiOWiSH® Fertilizer Enhancement is also compatible with differentiated technologies like urease inhibitors, some controlled release products, and nitrification inhibitors. This extensive compatibility enables growers to keep their current management practices in place while incorporating BiOWiSH® into their programs to increase nutrient use efficiency and support nutrient uptake.
Creating a Flexible Fertility Program
Offering a fertilizer enhancement means we work in collaboration with the fertilizer industry rather than in competition. Furthermore, our goal is not to tell farmers how they need to farm; our goal is to give farmers better options and greater control over their business.
Designed with farmers in mind, BiOWiSH® Enhanced Fertilizer enables growers to select the right fertility program for their operation based on their own success criteria. Independent, third-party research conducted at full fertility revealed that BiOWiSH® Enhanced Fertilizer has an 86%-win rate. In addition, results from more than 200 replicated, third-party trials of BiOWiSH® revealed an average yield increase of 7.7% compared to a standard fertility program. Nitrogen (N) Optimized trials using 10% less fertilizer had an average yield increase of 4.5%, while crop yields were maintained with a 20% N Optimized program. Based on the results in the table below, growers using BiOWiSH® have more tools in their toolbelt for managing their fertility programs alongside the fluctuations in input costs, commodity markets, and weather.
In addition to product compatibility and rate flexibility, the application timing of BiOWiSH® Enhanced Fertilizer can be tailored to a grower’s current fertility program. Unlike biological seed inoculants, which can only be applied to the seed and used once at planting, the BiOWiSH® Fertilizer Enhancement can be effortlessly incorporated into various fertilizer application windows including pre-plant, at planting, topdress, sidedress, or through fertigation. It can also be applied at any time of the day or night to keep in schedule with the farm’s practices. This versatility enables growers to incorporate the product into their program on their own terms.
A modern agricultural tool, the BiOWiSH® Fertilizer Enhancement provides farming operations with greater control while strengthening their fertility programs. Its product compatibility and flexibility allow growers to maximize their fertilizer investments and meet the goals of their farm operation.
