Organic matter (OM) change in the soil is a slow process, occurring over multiple plantings, fertility treatments, and crop rotations. Are BiOWiSH® Crop products compatible with other fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, or insect and disease-controlling chemicals?
BiOWiSH® Crop products are compatible with many common fungicides, herbicides and insect and disease-controlling chemicals. For a compatibility list, refer to the technical bulletin on our web page. Always conduct a jar test for compatibility.
BiOWiSH has a number of Crop products. Some of the products such as BiOWiSH® Crop 16-40-0 contains fertilizer materials; however, these are simply diluents for the biology and do not meaningfully contribute to the overall fertilizer budget due to the low volume used per acre or hectare. Products such as BiOWiSH® Crop Liquid and BiOWiSH® Crop do not contain any fertilizer nutrients.
No, BiOWiSH® Crop products are made from naturally occurring, organisms that are not genetically modified.
Some products such as BiOWiSH® Crop Liquid are natural based and approved for use in a natural based production.
Extensive field testing over several years across multiple geographies has shown no long term negative effects from using BiOWiSH® Crop products.
Depending on the source and quality of the water you may notice an ammonia odor when adding BiOWiSH® Crop 16-40-0 to water. This happens when the pH is high enough to cause ammonia volatilization from the diammonium phosphate in the BiOWiSH® Crop 16-40-0 product. There is no negative impact on the BiOWiSH® biology.
BiOWiSH® Crop products will not appreciably change soil pH. Optimal pH ranges vary by crop. BiOWiSH works across a wide range of soils, allowing use on all crop types.
Does adding BiOWiSH® Crop Liquid to fertilizer change the formula/grade of the fertilizer itself and/or other fertilizer characteristic (humidity, hardness, particle size, density)?
No, the addition of BiOWiSH® Crop Liquid at the BiOWiSH recommended application rate does not change any of the physical or chemical properties of the fertilizer.
BiOWiSH® Bacillus are root-associated organisms which stimulate the plant’s natural rhizodeposition processes, promoting the proliferation of native soil beneficial Plant Growth Promoting microbes. Plants are not prone to stimulate rhizosphere microbial communities that include non-beneficial soil bacteria.

How do BiOWiSH® agronomy products help to solubilize phosphorus and make phosphate available to the plant in acidic soils with high Al3+ and high Fe3+ levels?
In acidic soils with high levels of metal ions like Al3+ and Fe3+, phosphate is bound-up in the form of the corresponding insoluble metal phosphates, e.g. AlPO4 and FePO4. Phosphorus solubilization in such soils generally occurs via microbial mediated reduction of the metal ion resulting in the release of phosphate. A number of soil microbes, including Pseudomonas, Shewanella, and Geobacter, are involved in this process.
Application of BiOWiSH® microorganisms to soil promotes a shift in the rhizosphere microbiome, resulting in increased populations of certain beneficial microbes, including those with metal ion reductase activity (like Pseudomonas). In addition, the endophytic activity of BiOWiSH® microorganisms promotes improved plant uptake of the released phosphate by shifting the equilibrium of bound-to-soluble phosphate towards more soluble phosphate.
Therefore, addition of BiOWiSH® to soils improves phosphorus solubilization by promoting the growth of soil microbes capable of reducing metal phosphates, improving the uptake of the released phosphate by plants and shifting the equilibrium between bound and soluble phosphate towards more soluble phosphate.
Is there an excess level of fertilizer that prohibits a yield benefit from BiOWiSH agronomy products?
Excess fertilizer application negatively impacts soil, affecting root systems (which supply water and nutrients to the plant) and overall plant growth. Excess fertilizer application also creates situations where the excess fertilizer cannot be naturally dissolved by rainfall or irrigation water, resulting in the soluble salts and minerals remaining in the soil. This raises soil salinity levels and can lower soil pH, making nutrients less available to plants. In these extraordinary circumstances these factors accumulate and can reduce the efficiency response of BiOWiSH agronomy products, as well as negatively affecting native beneficial soil microorganisms.
One of BiOWiSH agronomy products modes of action is to stimulate microbial activity in the soil. How does this affect soil carbon levels?
BiOWiSH Enhanced Efficiency Fertilizers are not intended as microbial soil inoculations. Rather, BiOWiSH Bacillus form endophytic associations with host plants and exist within plant root tissues to facilitate the production of exudates. This results in a shift in functional diversity in rhizosphere microbial communities towards plant growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB), but does not drive an overall increase in rhizosphere microbial abundance. As a consequence, the addition of BiOWiSH® does not drive appreciable differences in soil carbon levels through microbial proliferation. Due to our proprietary fermentation process, BiOWiSH® Crop products have a broad range of operating conditions, such as up to 3 ppm of chlorine. With that said, high levels of heavy metals such as Lead, Cadmium, Arsenic, Mercury and Silver will have an adverse effect on BiOWiSH® Crop products. Our unique bacteria strains are fermented in our multi-phase proprietary manufacturing process that creates stable, consistent biology. This is NOT a GMO process, simply a different way to ferment microbes that makes them operate in a wider range of conditions and be more robust that creates more of the desired benefits.
The benefits of using BiOWiSH® Crop products include improved soil productivity and plant vigor, increased plant root mass, increased nutrient availability, decreased fertilization and irrigation needs, optimized yield potential, and a positive return on investment.
BiOWiSH® Crop Liquid is a liquid product, sold in 55 gallon (190 L) containers and 264 gallon (1000 L) totes. BiOWiSH® Crop, Crop 3-4-0, and Crop 16-40-0 are soluble powder products sold in 100 g, 1 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg foil bags.
BiOWiSH® Crop and BiOWiSH® Crop 16-40-0 are solid soluble products used interchangeability for liquid applications in the field. The difference between the products is their carrier materials; the biology is the same for both products. Because the biology is the same for both products, the performance is also similar. The primary reason for having two solid soluble products is to accommodate geography or market specific parameters, including organic certification for BiOWiSH® Crop.
Example liquid applications are drip irrigation, pivots, tractors or ground rigs, backpack sprayers, and more.
There should be no effect of high water levels on BiOWiSH® Crop products. In cases where excess water causes soil erosion, some of the BiOWiSH may erode with the soil. In addition, excess water can cause leaching of available nutrients in some soil types. However, BiOWiSH organisms are endophytes, associating with the plant roots. As long as the root is healthy and intact, BiOWiSH will perform even under excessively high-water levels.
When combined with Humic Acid containing products, BiOWiSH® Crop Products provide an additional benefit in plant growth and crop yield. Humic acid containing products increase water infiltration and water-holding capacity of soil. BiOWiSH® Crop Products work by encouraging growth and proliferation of plant growth promoting microbes in the soil and by enhancing endophytic association with plant roots. The increase in soil moisture levels from addition of Humic Acid products facilitates germination of BiOWiSH® organisms, allowing them to proliferate and migrate through the soil to the plant roots. This in turn, induces a positive shift in the soil microbiome that favors growth of additional plant growth promoting microbes.
BiOWiSH® microbials can grow in soil at temperatures as low as 10oC (50oF) and as high as 60oC (140oF); thereby, enhancing crop performance at extremely low, optimum, and extremely high plant growth temperatures.
BiOWiSH® Crop products are biological, not chemical, formulas therefore, when used as directed they will not result in crop burn. Please refer to the product label and user guides for recommended dosage instructions.
Yes, BiOWiSH® Crop products are soluble in water and liquid fertilizers.
Recommended BiOWiSH® Crop dosages are designed for optimal production for most farm management and fertility programs. High dosage levels will not harm individual crops, but may lead to less than optimal performance. We recommend that label instructions be followed for all applications.

Yes, BiOWiSH® Crop will work well in all hydroponic systems for all crop classes. Adding BiOWiSH® Crop to the fertilizer batch tank makes this an easy and profitable application.
Once applied, BiOWiSH penetrates the soil, establishes itself within the soil microbiome and plant rhizosphere, and does not wash off with normal rainfall or irrigation.

What makes the bacteria in the BiOWiSH® agronomy products wake up and how long do they live before and after application?
The bacteria in BiOWiSH® agronomy products exist in spore form and are stable in spore form for up to 3 years when stored as directed. These bacteria in spore stage are dormant until conditions are right for germination, or “waking up.” Optimum conditions for germination include moisture levels greater than about 10%, a carbon:nitrogen ratio greater than about 2:1, and pH greater than 3.5.
The illustrated levels vary as each parameter impacts the level of the others for germination. Once BiOWiSH® products are applied to the soil surface or soil incorporated, spores will germinate and the lifetime of BiOWiSH® bacteria in the soil depends on the conditions of the application environment and management practices. BiOWiSH® bacteria can live in the soil throughout the crop cycle, however, they may not be present in the soil throughout the entire crop cycle due to environmental conditions and management practices.
The role of BiOWiSH® bacteria in the soil is to stimulate the native beneficial bacteria, which will be present throughout the crop cycle and beyond. BiOWiSH® bacteria can, however, continue to live in the plant and remain viable for the lifetime of the plant because BiOWiSH® organisms are endophytes, which means they integrate into the roots of plants and exit back to the soil. This soil-to-root-to-soil recycling process can occur many times.
Stability and Storage
After agitation per label instructions, BiOWiSH® Crop products can be immediately added to the soil or plants.
BiOWiSH® Crop Liquid should be stored above 4°C (39°F) and below 40°C (104°F) in tightly sealed containers and out of direct sunlight. BiOWiSH® Crop and BiOWiSH® Crop 16-40-0 should be stored below 40°C (104°F) in a tightly sealed bag and out of direct sunlight.
First, make sure the lid is securely closed after use to maintain a long shelf life. BiOWiSH® Crop Liquid have a 3-year shelf life when stored as directed.
Storage directions: Cover and store in a cool, dry location out of direct sunlight. Once opened, keep in an airtight container to maintain the integrity of the product. Prevent spillage and separate from strong oxidizers.
We ask that you keep in an airtight container to prevent the risk of contamination. While our formulation accounts for reasonable levels of contaminants, no biological or chemical products are immune contamination when the products are not stored in airtight containers. BiOWiSH provides a second line of defense to contamination with a mechanical approach. This approach limits the number of times the container is opened, helping products reach their full shelf life. BiOWiSH® Crop products have a three-year shelf life when stored as directed. Once coated onto fertilizer, BiOWiSH® Crop Liquid coated fertilizers have a one-year shelf life. Once in solution BiOWiSH® Crop, BiOWiSH® Crop 16-40-0 should be used within 96 hours (4 days).

What is the residual life of BiOWiSH® microbes once in the soil/how long will BiOWiSH® microbes remain active in the soil?
BiOWiSH® organisms only remain in the soil for a short period of time. However, because they are endophytic, they migrate from the soil into the rhizosphere and become associated with the plant roots. Therefore, they remain viable and active in the rhizosphere throughout the life of the plant.
